A woman dancing with her arms mid air

Music can help people process hard things like  grief, overwhelm or loneliness. The Darling playlist series was created to help you during this time of quarantine. We hope to use music to bring you a little hope today.

The other day I was listening to music in my kitchen, and I began to dance. I started dancing my heart out as Lizzo blasted from my phone. I was filled with energy and joy as I imagined myself being backup-dancer-level good.

Then, I made eye contact with my neighbors on their balcony who could see directly into my kitchen windows. After a momentary pause for a laughing fit of embarrassment, I continued dancing. My kitchen-turned-dance-floor moves had revived me in the midst of mass quarantine.

Being stuck indoors as spring starts to bloom outside is especially depressing, but music has the power to transform your mood. It can be particularly helpful right now as we all navigate a world of social distancing. Music can help you feel the joy and energy you might otherwise be missing this season.

As everyone does their best to “shelter in place” and  stay at home during the outbreak of COVID-19, we could all use some music to get us moving and shift us into a place of joy. Maybe you have a treadmill you’re finally utilizing, or you’re creating a yoga studio for yourself in your living room. Maybe you’re able to get out for a walk around your neighborhood.

Whatever it is, this playlist is the perfect soundtrack to pump you up for the season! (You can also find this playlist on Spotify here.)
