This cocktail is perfectly autumnal and would make a great addition to any Halloween party or a cozy night in with your loved one. It’s beautiful, light, and has a delightful orange hue. Persimmons are one of the best fruit harvests during fall. They have a custard-like texture and an exotic, earthy flavor.
Persimmon + Nasturtium Fizz Cocktail
(Makes 2 Cocktails)
2 tablespoons Persimmon + Nasturtium simple syrup (recipe below)
4 ounces gin
About ½ cup sparkling water
Handful of ice
Organic nasturtium flowers for garnishing
Optional: Freshly ground nutmeg
Place all ingredients in a large cocktail shaker. Shake! Pour into two tumblers of your choice. Garnish each with an organic nasturtium flower. If you’d like to add some warmth, add a touch of freshly ground nutmeg.
Persimmon + Nasturtium Simple Syrup
1 cup organic sugar
½ cup filtered water
2 ripe organic persimmons, chopped
A few organic nasturtium flowers
Place sugar, water, chopped persimmons and nasturtium flowers in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture has thickened into a syrup. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl. Pour into a clean, airtight container and store in the fridge.
Persimmons are unusually delicious. You can also experiment with this wonderful ingredient by making a Star Anise and Persimmon Pie which would pair beautifully with this libation.
