A Note From The Editor: We are very aware that the words we publish in this space and in our print issues have power. Even more so, we’re in awe of how your words, our dear Darling readers, keep us encouraged and motivated in the mission to redefine what true beauty looks like — in the media and in culture — so that all women everywhere can feel known, loved, whole and worthy. We want to start sharing these words with you as well, because YOU are the real voice and agent of change.
From Darling readers at Saving Sundays in Singapore:
Our favourite women’s magazine of all times, Darling Magazine, recently created a campaign #RealNotRetouched, which aims to move and shake the standards of media to see women as masterpieces in the first place, instead of flawed canvas that’s in need of modification.
As our token of support to Darling Magazine and #RealNotRetouched campaign, we organised a small gathering last Saturday. It was a beautiful sunny day in the park where our lovely friends gathered to enjoy the simple act of sharing food and meaningful conversations on what the real beauty means to us.
While this campaign currently focuses on women, our amazing partners who came to support this campaign sparked some food for thought: How about our beloved men? Wouldn’t we much rather see real men in the magazines as well? They rarely, or almost never, get mentioned in campaigns of such sort, so maybe it is time to join the powers together regardless of the gender and shake the media standards together?
Thank you everyone who came to this beautiful event!
