When it comes to homeopathic skin care a little can go a very long way. You can create your very own yummy concoction with just a few items that are within reach right in your kitchen.

It is the perfect time of year to renew and rejuvenate your skin with this two-step treatment to get it ready to glow despite the strong winds of winter! Winter can leave your skin feeling dry and dull as the cold sucks the moisture out, stripping the skin of its natural oils.

THE FIRST STEP to a healthy complexion is exfoliation. A good scrub must be strong enough to slough away dead skin cells, but gentle enough to reveal a new layer of fresh skin ready to shine through. Our brown sugar and honey-lemon scrub will do just that.

Brown sugar contains glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that is included in many high priced skin treatments due to its detoxifying properties. Honey contains antimicrobial enzymes that cleanse the skin of harmful bacteria, and is rich in anti-oxidants, which are essential to slowing down the process of aging of the skin. Lemon contains citric acid, which in small quantities helps eliminate excess oils, which could become a breeding ground for clogged pores and breakouts.

Step One: Brown Sugar and Honey Scrub

2 tablespoons – organic brown sugar

1 tablespoon – organic honey

1/4 teaspoon – fresh squeezed lemon juice

Directions: Mix ingredients together in a small ceramic bowl. Gently massage onto face with fingertips in small, circular motions, working from the center of your face (nose and chin) towards your cheek and jawbones, and upward and outward on the forehead towards the temples. Rinse gently with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel.

THE SECOND STEP is a moisturizing and firming mask. Its purpose is to calm and nourish the skin by reducing redness and tightening newly cleansed pores. Our yogurt and blueberry- cucumber mask is the perfect balance for your skin after a deep exfoliating cleanse. Yogurt contains zinc and calcium (among other minerals), and helps clear blemishes, while its natural enzymes moisturize and nourish your skin. Blueberries contain powerful antioxidants to help boost skin cell regeneration. Cucumbers contain ascorbic acids that help battle swelling. Its natural retention of a cool temperature can mean that a cucumber can be up to 20 degrees cooler than room temperature in mild conditions, adding to it’s refreshing sensation.

Step Two: Yogurt Blueberry- Cucumber Mask

1/2 cup organic Greek yogurt

2 dozen organic blueberries

5 organic cucumber slices

Directions: Crush blueberries into yogurt in a small bowl. Greek yogurt tends to work best for this mask due to its thicker texture, as it will get watered down from the blueberry and cucumber juices, although regular organic yogurt can be used as well. Next, crush three cucumber slices into the mixture in the same manner. Apply generously to face and neck, and apply two remaining cucumber slices on to your closed eyelids. Indulge in relaxing thoughts for the next 10 minutes…then rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry.
