We are bringing “Darling Letters” from your inbox to the blog! We love the art of letter writing and believe it helps build authentic community. Our editors and contributors have thoughtfully written encouraging letters to cut through the busyness and speak straight to your heart.

My resting disposition entails headphones in my ears and music playing. It is a comfort and a luxury having my day set against a soundtrack of my choosing.

As I walk to the store, the beat of the drums guides my steps. As I read, strings orchestrate the movement of my eyes. When my “2020 Wrapped” Spotify playlist came out, a small sense of pride washed over me as I took in the thousands of hours I spent listening to music and podcasts throughout the past 365 days.

A small sense of pride washed over me as I took in the thousands of hours I spent listening to music and podcasts throughout the past 365 days.

Recently, however, I had a realization that made me take issue with my regular routine. You see, with my headphones in and my music on, I am engulfed in creativity but entirely detached from silence. I am quick to avoid silence, wanting to press beyond a state that I previously deemed isolating or awkward.

I have begun pushing myself to lean into silence and recognizing this state as not empty but instead replete with possibility. With melodies pulsing through our minds, we tune out the symphonies all around usbits of conversations heard in passing, sounds of birds, laughter and so much more.

Today, I encourage you to intentionally create pockets of silence within your day. As we delve into the silence around us and within us, may we find that there is music waiting to be discovered everywhere.
