Merry Mocktails

A holiday gathering surely calls for a festive and flavorsome drink. Since not everyone drinks alcohol, especially children, teenagers, pregnant women – and let’s not forget about the designated driver – it’s a loving note to guests to be prepared with a few easy recipes.

Whether looking to indulge them over the holiday season or perhaps get into the holiday spirit by fixing yourself a flavorful sip of something – let’s make merry with mocktails!

Pear Tree

Serves 1

1 cup ice
1/3 cup pear juice
2 tablespoons lemon-lime juice
2 tablespoons simple syrup
4 fresh mint leaves
1 mint sprig (garnish)

Make a simple syrup ahead of time by mixing equal parts water and sugar. Heat over medium heat on stovetop until sugar dissolves. Cool to room temperature.

Add ingredients in a cocktail shaker (except mint sprig). Shake until well blended (10-15 seconds). Pour drink into a tall glass full of ice. Garnish with mint sprig.  Mixing sweet with tart – it’s simply delicious!

Candy Cane Soda

Serves 1

½ cup flavored sparkling water (try lemon-lime or cranberry flavor)
Candy cane

Pour ½ cup flavored sparkling water into tall glass. Add 2 tablespoons grenadine (to taste). Fill with ice and stir gently. Add candy cane to garnish.

Poinsettia Sipper

Serves 4

2 cups cranberry cocktail juice
2 cups apple juice
½ cup sugar
2 tablespoons orange juice
3 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 cups water
Orange rind curls (garnish)

Combine ingredients in a saucepan (use medium heat). Stir until sugar dissolves and bring to a gentle boil. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Remove cloves and cinnamon sticks from pan. Serve warm in glass mugs, or cold in martini glasses. Garnish glasses with orange rind curls. This delightful drink tastes divine – whether offered warm or chilled. Guests can serve themselves directly from the stovetop, or individual cocktails can be presented chilled.
