25 Days of Darling: Day 18

Put others first. There are only a few shopping days until Christmas, and parking lots and malls are a scene of mayhem; people are on edge–honking at one another and fighting for their place in long lines. Until Christmas, be conscientious while driving, even give someone a parking spot you were about to take. If someone is in a hurry, let them go in front of you in line. Keep in mind that it’s not about being “first;” its about love. And as you practice this, perhaps it will spill over into your life no matter what time of year.

25 Days of Darling: Day 17

Send a Christmas card to your kindergarten or first grade teacher. Yes it was ages ago, but with the amount of social networking sites we now have, you might be able to find him/her easier. If you can’t send a physical card, Darling recommends Paperless Post for cute e-cards. In your card thank them for their years of dedication in education. Teaching can sometimes be a tough, thankless job, so they will really appreciate the thought of sending them a Christmas surprise. And of course they will remember you!

25 Days of Darling: Day 16

Say “I’m sorry.” Maybe you said something to a co-worker that caused a ripple in the relationship, and you both pretend it didn’t happen. Or perhaps you said something to your husband that belongs on an episode of Real Housewives; you both have swept past it, but it still nags you. Go ahead and say you are sorry about that deed even though you may think it’s no longer affecting the other person. If you can’t muster the courage to do it face to face, go ahead and write it in a letter. Those two words, said meaningfully, can change the course of someone’s day, and start to heal a relationship.

25 Days of Darling: Day 15

Hug a person who you haver never hugged before. Yes, you may think it might be awkward, but it is worth it. Maybe you have been seeing the same cashier every morning for the last three months; you know she has 3 kids and a dog named Huey…Just tell her you would like to give her a Christmas hug because you are so thankful for all the work she does for you.

25 Days of Darling: Day 11

Go to the dollar store and buy items for “care packages” for homeless people. Keep them in your car so you can hand them out to those you encounter on the street or freeway exits. Instead of handing out money, this is a way to ensure they will receive things they probably truly need.

Ideas: (make sure they are small so they can fit in a ziplock bag)

Toothbrush

Toothpaste

Snacks

Hairbrush

Soap

Deodorant

Socks

Water

Small Bible or encouraging book
