Brittany Merrill Underwood grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and earned her BA at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. In 2006, Brittany founded an organization to build an orphanage with the capacity for 180 children living in rural poverty in Uganda. In 2007 Brittany launched the Akola Project in Eastern Uganda to empower women to uplift the spiritual and physical livelihoods of their families and communities through economic development. In 2008, she expanded the scope of the project to help women in war-torn communities in Northern Uganda generate income to restore their communities. Brittany leads the Akola Project as Founder and President and implements strategic visioning in Uganda and the US as the organization continues to grow.
